For a photographer at a Pride parade it’s always a temptation to concentrate on the most flamboyant and outrageous costumes (which, it has to be said, can be pretty spectacular), without recognising that some 300 or so different groups take part in the procession, representing pretty much every aspect of modern society.

And as much as the festival is a celebration of openness and community, it’s also still very much a political event, providing a reminder to everybody of the struggle and oppression LGBT+ communities face in less progressive corners of the world.

 Meanwhile, away from the glamour of the annual Festival, community spirit continues with numerous charity and fund-raising events supporting those still dealing with long-term consequences of the HIV/AIDS catastrophe and continuing discrimination.
